Hunting with Marcel and friends
begins with a review of the itinerary :
Which sections of the forest
will be hunted, and in what order?
Where will the hunters position themselves?
Attempting to flush deer and wild boar from the woods,
the trackers make their sweep in formation.
The hunter waits.
When an animal finally does make its break,
the dogs' barking crescendoes.
Heartbeats race, adrenaline surges.
Skill and luck tighten in the crosshairs.
The hunter's focus may be precise,
but today the deer distances itself
from the fire, breaking across an open field to safety.
Tonight he will eat, rather than be eaten.
Tomorrow never knows...
