i've hunted w/ almost every kind of coondog and i've found that in general walkers, english and lepards tend to turn out to be better dogs. they seem to be alot easier to train, they start hunting younger and are more trustworthy in the woods. every breed seems to have its own style of habits so thats one thing to keep in mind.

I have always hunted Walkers. Of course I am going to say that they are the best. If your are wanting general breed info and different info on dogs go to www.coondawgs.com. That is the best website that I have found for any answers that I have been looking for.

There is honestly no way to answer the question of what is the best raccoon hunting dog. It depends on every little detail. If you want a dog that hunts with its nose and goes without getting tired in order to find and tree a raccoon, and one that won't come back to its master all the time because it's too busy hunting, then a hound is likely your "best" bet. Some people like that while other hate that and prefer a dog that hunts a circle or a strip with a mixture of nose, eyes, ears and brains and comes back to check in now and then.

For these guys, there are the Mountain Cur strains and feist dogs. For these guys, curs and feists are the best and they wouldn't hunt a hound if they had to. Other guys would only hunt a hound and wouldn't hunt with a cur if they had to. So the "best" coondog is a title that will always be up for grabs and never really claimed by any one breed, though some guys will always say and act like their breed of choice is the best.

One last piece of mind: visit - http://www.huntingdogsreviews.com/ for more information.

Hope this helps.
