I can tell you that in almost all cases trapping the coyote, fox or a wild canid will rarely work with cage traps.

Trapping a canine sometimes requires learning or studying the problem canine. Use trail cameras. If they are eating livestock look into the poisoned collars. it can take alot of time to get a trap wise fox or yote. Infact taking a rifle shot is always your first choice when in an area that will permit you to legally fire a weapon.

The snare or foothold is your best choice . As I mentioned before there are several good books and videos out on trapping and personally I have learned a lot from Hal Sullivan . He also runs a forum and is always willing to help if you bought his book or video. Not because you bought the book but because you have been to his crash course.

My brother is the pro at this, he uses 1.5 foot hold traps for fox and snares for coyote.
