Bass Tackle
Begin with one spinning rod and one casting rod. I recommend that a five to six foot medium stiff spinning or casting rod in the mid-priced range is sufficient for a start. Let the tackle dealer where you buy your rod suggest the reel that matches your new fishing pole.
Attach the reel to the rod. Now lay the rod across your opened hand. The rod should lie perfectly still if the rod and reel balance. The weight of the reel should equal the weight of the rod. If the rod and reel together are not balanced then you will cast with the weight either forward or backward. If you make enough casts in a day with an unbalanced outfit, your wrist will let you know the next day, it will be sore.
Line
Ten-pound test line. This is a very strong, yet, thin enough line for fishing among stick-ups and brush and knicks and abrasions do not affect the line.
Lures
Spinners, deep divers and plastic worms. Must have a sunfish, minnow, perch color.
Hope this helps.

first you need to find out where you're going to fish. Is it a small pond, or a giant lake. This will dictate where the bass will be and what type of food they're eating. If you're a begginer at bass fishing I'd buy a few low and medium depth crand baits. I seem to always have success with them, and they're the easiest lure to master. Unless you're fishing for smallmouth bass. If you are a Mepps Comet lure has always worked great for me retreived moderately fast. I would use 6-8 pound test line on a medium pole. Bass like big lillypads, weedbeds, and drop offs in depth in a lake. If you have any of those in your fishing area I'd work those areas extra hard.
The best time to do any fishing or hunting is when a major change is happening in the weather. If the barometer reads 29, and in an hour it reads 34, you probably should be fishing. I would invest in some bass books, or just get a .50 cent library card and check them out for free.
