Group wants aerial wolf hunting banned
ANCHORAGE, Ala., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- A conservation group is posting ads in the Washington, D.C., subway promoting legislation to end aerial hunting of wolves, it was reported Wednesday.

The ads, posted in the Capitol South Metro Station, are sponsored by the conservation group Defenders of Wildlife. They urge support for federal legislation sponsored by Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., the Anchorage Daily News reported.

Opponents of aerial hunting said it is an inhumane practice that violates the concept of fair chase, the newspaper said.

Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, opposes the national legislation. He said some predator control is necessary to keep the Alaska wolf population in check and protect populations of moose and caribou.
