My neighbor Melvin Oliver has a 12 acre field surrounded with 6 feet of electric fence where he trains beagles. He keeps fox and coyote out to protect the rabbits. Minks have gotten in and when he traps them sometimes he catches rabbits. Shooting them has been tough. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the minks without trapping rabbits? He's tried about everything and I told him I would try the internet. He doesn't have a computer.

| Beginning Coyote Hunter Posted On February 17, 2008, by countryboy859 | |
I'm new at this and I have read alot of different tips and techniques. I like the thought of calling them in by hand its more of a interaction with the hunter and the prey. But I need to know what I'm doing wrong. How Long should I call for? Using a rabbit n distress. How long should I sit in one spot? I have been out quite a few times and I am starting to get pretty discouraged. Is their any advice on tips how to set up. Camo? I have always thought that a ghillie suit would be the best camoflauge for coyotes an turkeys alike they both have very good eyesig...

| A Hunters Ballad - Father to Son Posted On February 06, 2008, by Baer | |
A Hunters Ballad - Father to Son Written by: Brent AustringWe long for danger, for excitement, for blood - even if it's our own! Yes, we need the danger, we lust for risk and for life on the edge of death. We pray for danger, because we know we have a God who thrives in taking us through adventures of great risk and faith - and who, should we perish, will catch us on the other side. We are not the breed of feeble soft fatties that sit in recliners and watch the adventures and dangers of others on 300 channels, with quivering, drooling, pink lips crusted with dried coward saliva. We are the on...

| How to kill a coyote???? Posted On December 23, 2007, by Terry | |
I don't know if this is the place to get questions answered but I am in need of some help. A few days ago a pack of coyotes killed my Jack Russell. They broke his neck, his back and skinned his torso. Why would they kill an animal just for sport? I thought it would be for food. They just left him in the field.
What is the best way to deal with a den that is in a large thicket of blackberry bushes right next to your house seperated only by a fence?
Will they fall for small animal traps with meat in them?
If someone could give me some hints how I can get rid of ...

| What You Didn't Know About Goose Decoys Posted On October 31, 2007, by jfisher | |
Regarding the decoy placement and positioning it is advisable to place the decoys in a "V" shape, wedge with the point of the "V" or the wedge into the wind because geese prefer landing in the wind. Placing them in an "X" is recommended for the times when there isn't any wind. For decoys you install in water, these should be placed in a "J" shape with the bend of the "J" into the wind.
Regarding the realism of the decoys, you should use the most realistic decoys you can find. Full bodied and shells are very efficient but are more expensive in comparison to the normal decoys. Goose decoys s...

| Training A Coon Hound Posted On October 31, 2007, by PauleenWise | |
Training your coonhound should start when your dog is still a pup but keep in mind that being only a pup he won’t absorb many information. The first things he should learn are the basic commands, no complex techniques because he won’t be able to understand them. It is recommended to consult with other coon dog trainers because they will give the most useful hunting tips for your dog.Letting your dog hunt along with other dogs is highly recommended because he will learn a lot from these experiences. While training a dog, brutal punishment isn’t recommended because it will leave men...

| Purchasing A Moose Hunting Rifle Posted On October 31, 2007, by tomco_denzil | |
Choosing the proper hunting equipment is very important for any type of hunting, moose is no exception. The most important part is the rifle; basically, any rifle capable of shooting a bullet of 150 grains ( the more the better ) at 2500 fps ( the more the better ) will do just fine for moose hunts. Some good choices would be : .308, .30-06 as we have mentioned before, .300 magnum, .338 magnum, .337 magnum calibers. If you have recently purchased a rifle, start practicing as much as possible, get used to the rifle because if you go hunting without accommodating with the rifle you won’t get t...

| Instructions For Building A Rabbit Trap Posted On October 31, 2007, by david_alf | |
If you are having problems with rabbits and want to eliminate them, the wise solution is to build a wooden cage trap. Live trapping isn’t that efficient in the summer months due to the fact that there is a lot of vegetation so you will have serious difficulties luring the rabbits. If you are a live trap fan, place them in an area where there is a large population of rabbits. To be efficient, the rabbit trap should be made out of good quality lumber. The door and the guides are the most important parts of the guide due to the fact that gravity must close the door once the trigger is tripped....

| Facts About Black Bear Calls & Calling Posted On October 31, 2007, by david_alf | |
The most important rule when it comes down to black bear calling is to never stop because once you have seized calling, the bear will surely lose his interest. Calling depends on the environment you will be conducting your hunts; for example, big basins ( in comparison to desert regions ) will require a longer calling in order to attract the bears. Another example, for heavily wooded areas, it is highly advisable to use electronic calls because: these calls make intense sounds; you won’t get tired after calling for a few minutes.A common mistake that many hunters do is to imitate the ...
